Est. 1850

The Uniting Church has a rich history spanning more than 170 years in Gawler and the surrounding districts. Long before the formation of the Uniting Church in Australia in 1977, the church carried traditions from the Methodist, Congregational, and Presbyterian communities across the Gawler District.

Our primary campus, established in 1850, began as a Wesleyan Methodist Chapel at 10 Tod Street, Gawler, making it the town's oldest surviving church building. Reflecting the prosperity of the era, a larger Gothic-style church was built in 1869 at 21 Tod Street. In 1977, the Methodist, Congregational, and Presbyterian congregations united to form the Gawler Uniting Church Parish. Further strengthening its community ties, the church amalgamated with the Williamstown congregation in January 2025, forming Transform Uniting Church, continuing its mission to serve the Gawler and Williamstown communities.

Our secondary campus, established in 1860, has been a cornerstone of the Williamstown community for over 160 years. Originally constructed as a Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, the church was later enhanced with the addition of a front porch in 1894 and a hall in 1924. It became part of the Gawler Parish during Union in 1977. In January 2025, the Williamstown congregation joined with Gawler Uniting Church to form Transform Uniting Church, marking a new chapter in our shared mission to serve and enrich our communities.
